Ways these Denver Broncos together with their flexible QB could halt the Kansas City Chiefs' reign.

Week six of the 2025 NFL season

Live coverage features text commentary of the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, audio coverage can be heard through designated networks covering another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).

It's week six in the football calendar , after last week's discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.

Notable during those contests were the number of penalties both conceded. Philadelphia committed them at crucial times so they kind of beat themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth period versus Denver, set to play in London this Sunday.

But it proved good to see that Denver's QB Bo Nix managed to have the shortfall and then lead three successful possessions on three possessions during the final period, to win the game by four points.

The Broncos boast the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They are number one in goal-line defense, whereas Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, and Denver prevailed in that battle.

They had effective strategies regarding disguised blitzes. They weren't necessarily rushing more than four defenders instead they might position two LBs in the 'A' gap then drop them out and dispatch a nickel from the outside.

Early on in the campaign, it was noted on a program how Denver could be this season's surprise contenders. They ended last season well and excelled of building upon that.

Could Denver be this year's underdog story?

New tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and new running back JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He's currently fifth league-wide in ground gains (402) and tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).

I love how head coach Sean Payton displays "RUSH!" prominently of his playcall sheet.

That shows how the Broncos are a team aiming to run first, because you can achieve much based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes while maintains in positive down and distances.

This has helped quarterback Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick last year, throwing 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs have the arm strength to throw all over, however they don't move the mobility as Nix. He has incredible arm talent, a unique trait, plus he's so athletic.

His strengths are his movement, being able to throw while moving, and finding varied release points to deliver throws as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can throw that layered pass over the middle and over the corner.

For a young quarterback, at 25, he displays great poise in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He tries to avoid being tackled whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and remains very decisive.

When you consistently run the ball it consumes time and makes the defence to stay in play for longer, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the area downfield side to side. It can be draining.

Nix has bitten back with the coach during games sometimes and it seems Payton appreciates that fire, that he's a fierce rival. In my view it's exciting for him to have a rookie QB who's similar to moldable clay. The coach can really build something up how he wants to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for the coach.

Payton has won a championship and now surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen everything. I think the success Denver are having offensively is mostly down to his leadership, his schemes, his game sense – and the pairing with Nix helps shape him into who he is.

You wouldn't want a better guy in your ear, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.

I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they good enough to face a top squad at full strength? Because that wasn't championship-level play from Philadelphia in their last game.

Currently, I don't think Denver are elite. They're performing above average, which is a good place to be in their division. All they need is is maintain this trajectory.

They excel at embracing their strength, that is the ground game, and that's exactly what they should do against the New York Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.

New York have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five ground scores so far (in the bottom ten), and they're the sole squad without a win any game.

Ever since the league started recording turnovers in 1933, this team are the inaugural squad to be without a single takeaway through five games, which is kind of shocking considering that the head coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.

Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.

Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a manageable slate up to their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the AFC West, the Chiefs are 2-3 and the Broncos are even with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge for the top of the division.

This hinges on which form Kansas City shows up they face since Denver {beat|def
