The Two Fatalities Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Authorities Continue Hunt for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant persisted following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The gunman opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official informed the news agency.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was released from the hospital, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

More Condolences

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his bright future.”

National Context

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in this year, according to records. The following Monday was the 349th day of the year.
