The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
