The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
