The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
