Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
