Fans Urge Detainment of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who breached a barricade and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though court documents showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Well-being
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the second of a two-part version of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, securing several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
