Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

The manager lamented known failings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with results this poor.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
